"Inglewood Eras" Founding, Fire & new Clubhouse - December 12, 1919 – Inglewood Country Club Founded.
- Macan and Johnstone hired to design course
1921 - August 6 – Golf Course officially open for play.
1921- Al Espinosa hired as 1st Club Professional 1921 – Original Clubhouse opened 1924
- July 1 – Walter Pursey hired as 2nd Club Professional The Depression & War Years
1932
- The “nines” were reversed to current layout.
1932 - Membership decreased steadily after the stock market crash in 1929. From 429 in 1929 down to 48 in 1934.
1934 - Foreclosure occurred March 31, 1934 to Pacific Mutual Insurance
1935 - Washington State Open
at Inglewood
1936
- Seattle Open
played at Inglewood.
1937
- The club owned 5 slot machines in 1937.
1940 - February 1, in default again, Joe Barron, a real-estate developer, bought the club.
1943
- January 5, the club was turned over to the Coast Guard.
1946 - Course reopened and the members leased the club back
from Joe Barron of Inglewood, Inc. 1949 - Inglewood rated, “Among Best in World”! Post War – Lease Years 1947 – Washington State Open at Inglewood. 1947 - Ed “Porky” Oliver of the Pro Tour became club Pro. 1950 - Slot machines were a profitable business for club. 1953 - Electric Caddy Carts were introduced on a trial basis. 1953 - Olympic Club closed and merged with Inglewood. 1954 - Ray Koch became club manager. Family lived in CH. 1955 – Men’s and Women’s PNGA at Inglewood. 1959 - With on going lease problems, the club considered moving to the north end of Bothel. 1961 – Current Pro Shop built. 1963 - Clubhouse remodeled, new DR. 1963 - Seattle Open, PGA Men’s Tour. 1964 - LPGA Valhalla Open. 1964 – Washington State Open. 1965 – Seattle Open, PGA Men’s Tour70's - 80's Repurchase years
1969 – In frustration, about 60 members leave to join Sahalee,
founded by a small core group that included 6 Inglewood members. (Among
them, Ernie and Carl Jonson).
1970 – After many years of discussion and failed discussions, the
Membership agrees to re-purchase the club from the Barrons for $2.2
million.
1970-77 – Class “C”
Memberships sold – redeemable at $4250. 161 were sold initially and
Barrons retained 39.
1971 – 18 slot machines removed from storage in the basement.
1974 – Cart barns were built with a “user” assessment.
1975 - Agreement was closed when needed funds finally raised for
down-payment. Cash Flow was day-to-day.
1970’s - Class “D”
memberships sold to raise funds at $2500.
1982 – Initiation Fee is established for purchasers of stock.
1989 – Mortgage finally paid
Tournaments and Renovation
In the 80’s and 90’s many prestigious golf events were played at
Inglewood. These promoted the club’s reputation and to a lesser
degree, finances:
1980 – Washington State Open
1985 – Washington State Open
1987 – 1995 - GTE NW Men’s
Senior’s
1989 – PNGA Mid-Amateur Championship
1996-97 – Fred Couples Invitational
1999 – PNGA Men’s Amateur - Centennial Anniversary
1992 - Significant renovation of the club, expanding and better utilizing the space. The ladies locker room was moved downstairs and the dining room/lounge was moved to its current location facing the golf course. (approx $2.5 million) 1999 - A new irrigation system and pond were built to replace the 1960's system. The maintenance buildings were expanded and 2 new ones added to complete the projects. (approx $2.2 million) 2006/7 - The men's locker room was remodeled and a men's lounge added in the original Pro Shop space. The locker romm had not been modified since 1962. The second phase was the completion of a new Pro Shop building that match the clubhouse. These projects marked the completion of the major renovation items and greatly enhanced the reputation of the club. Offers to buy begin exceeding the number of memberships for sale. (approx $2.9 million)
